Designing façades with MDi: an unbeatable sustainable building solution

Nowadays, there is a growing tendency for projects to give priority to cutting-edge façade systems with a distinctive outer design.

‘Ventilated façades’ were developed with this in mind. The main function of this architectural solution–in which MDi surfaces can be used as the outer cladding–is to create a second skin around buildings, thus improving their technical performance. 

Our MDi surfaces are the perfect choice for façades since their design and technical properties afford numerous benefits when they are used as cladding for buildings, contributing to the creation of sustainable buildings in harmony with their surroundings and with users.

Here are all the benefits that this system affords: 

First, it ensures energy savings by optimizing the thermal inertia of the load-bearing wall so that, in both summer and winter, the temperature outside the building will have less of an effect on its interiors. 

Second, it eliminates thermal bridges, since an air chamber is created between the original façade and the cladding, generating a ‘chimney effect’ so that as air circulates in the chamber, any entering warm air rises and is expelled.

The system also leads to fewer expansion movements in the building with the eradication of big temperature differences. 

Fourth, it protects the structure and the inner face of the outer walls of the building from atmospheric agents, hence avoiding damp and corrosion and other possible pathologies. 

More space inside the building can be gained because, with this system, the thickness of the insulation and supporting wall can be reduced. 

Likewise, the function of the load-bearing wall is to provide support points able to withstand wind loads, while the weight of the ventilated façade is borne by the floor slabs. 

Lastly, with ventilated façade systems, façades can be customized thanks to MDi surfaces’ wide variety of possible designs, textures and finishes. Furthermore, with our exclusive Tailor Made service, bespoke designs can be specially developed for projects.
