Today, we travel to one of the Mediterranean’s most iconic islands. In Santorini, we stay at Istoria Hotel, where design studio Interior Design Laboratorium chose to use the Petra collection in the hotel design project.
As the word suggests, Istoria means story in Greek and, indeed, what Interior Design Laboratorium effectively aimed to do was to tell the story of this building through its design. Consequently, when it was refurbished, the design studio conserved the traditional arched windows and doors so typical of Santorini’s architecture, combining them with more modern features.
Interior Design Laboratorium believes that every single decorative feature kindles some kind of sensation, and so the materials for Istoria Hotel were chosen with exquisite care. Thanks to its creamy colour and bush-hammered texture, the Petro collection blends in beautifully with the stone columns and old wooden ceilings, sparking dialogue between past and present.
“OUR AIM WAS FOR VISITORS TO FEEL THE PRESENCE OF THE ORIGINAL ESTATE HOUSE, DESPITE THE ALTERATIONS: AS IF A WORDLESS STORY WERE BEING WHISPERED INTO THE EAR OF EACH OF THE HOTEL’S GUESTS.”
The final outcome is a place more akin to a retreat: a cosy, welcoming backdrop where the sun and sea inspire a unique sense of freedom, allowing you to create your own special memories, your own Istoria.
