We tend to associate the idea of a second home with a seaside holiday home, where long leisurely days are spent, enjoying the heat and the summer sun. There is, however, another opposite alternative, with the same quintessential nature: a home in the mountains.
Today, we’re going to introduce you to a highly distinctive architectural project, set in the midst of nature and based on one clear design premise: a home that is conceived to be enjoyed, for resting the body and mind.
On the home’s exterior surfaces, the Masai collection’s subtle stone design combines to perfection with the trees, grass and surrounding land.
MDi is perfect for places like this, thanks to its resistance to extreme temperatures and its versatile design, able to fit in with projects of multiple kinds. It is also ideal for linking up different spaces: a particularly useful characteristic in the case of this house, where it manages to blur the limits between indoor and outdoor areas.
Leading up to the entrance is a superb length of palm fibre mat. This eco-friendly solution holds the earth in place, making it far easier for wheeled traffic to reach the house, while also adding a unique touch with its organic design.
Close contact with nature is also ensured through the home’s big windows, and the finishes used on the outdoor walls can also be seen on the kitchen units. The end result is a subtle combination of living spaces, with a soothing, natural feel.
In the kitchen, in addition to Masai, other collections were also used. Silk Blanco was chosen to clad the main wall and Vint was used for the big table, whose surface adds a touch of colour to the otherwise neutral-looking kitchen.
“WE INTRODUCE YOU TO A HIGHLY DISTINCTIVE PROJECT, SET IN THE MIDST OF NATURE AND BASED ON ONE CLEAR DESIGN PREMISE: A HOME THAT IS CONCEIVED TO BE ENJOYED, FOR RESTING THE BODY AND MIND.”
The most remarkable part of the home has to be its bathroom. You can easily imagine yourself in the bathtub beside the open window, feeling the contrast between the heat inside and the cold outdoors, calmly watching the seasons pass through the window as time slips by.
The Umbra collection accentuates that sensation of peace and tranquillity, since it has been used in wrap-round style on both the wall and the bathtub, setting this space apart from the rest of the home.
With this architectural project, an oasis of peace and quiet has been achieved. Nature is reflected in each of the home’s different living spaces, where its inhabitants can get away from it all and seek refuge from the hustle and bustle of the big city.
